British Values
Upholding British Values at Stanley St. Andrew’s Church of England Primary School:
Throughout our curriculum and vision, we aim to promote Fundamental British Values within all aspects of the school and our wider school community. As a school we are passionate about living out our school values and, therefore, the British Values.
The Government sets out that schools are required to ensure that key British Values are taught in all UK schools. The Government set out its definition of British values in the ‘Prevent Strategy’. These values are:
- Democracy
- Rule of law
- Individual liberty
- Mutual respect and tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs
We uphold the British values, above through our school values, which are:
Happiness: "The Lord is my strength and shield. I trust him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving." (Psalm 28:7)
Peace: “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.” (Matthew 5:9)
Truth: “If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.” (John 1:8)
Respect: “Treat others as you want to be treated.” (Luke 6:31)
Teamwork: “If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.” (Ecclesiastes 4:10)
Dedication: "So I have also dedicated him to the LORD; as long as he lives he is dedicated to the LORD” (Samuel 1:28)
Trust: “Those who know your name trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you.” (Psalms 9:10)
Love: “Do everything with love.” (Corinthians 16:14)
These values are the golden thread that runs through our curriculum. We take every opportunity to demonstrate, teach and reflect upon these through in the moment and planned activities that are age appropriate.
We embed these values through:
- Modelled behaviour from staff, governors and volunteers
- Collective Worship
- School council
- Charity work
- Celebrating different religions and cultures
- School trips
- Sports day
- Festival day
- Time to talk and reflect
- SMSC (Social, Moral, Spiritual and Cultural understanding).
We inspire all children to flourish by sharing their individual light during a life of fullness within God's love of all.
