Welcome back!

Autumn 2 overview

Christingle service: 

We had a lovely Christingle service in school led by Revd Ailsa. A huge thank you to Revd Ailsa for stepping in at short notice. Thank you 

Christmas crafting: 

As a class treat we had some time to do some Christmas crafting. 

Decorating cookies for pantomime day: 

We had some amazing cookie designs that look incredible!

Christingle making:

We learnt about Christingles and what each part symbolises and had lots of fun making them as well. 

Christmas dinner and jumper day:

Parks class had a great Christmas jumper day and a lovely lunch sat in Mandela hall with the rest of the school celebrating Christmas. 

Making 2d shapes:

 

We had a lovely session making  2d shapes out of lolly pop sticks. 

Nativity:

Wow! Well done Parks class what a wonderful Nativity performance.  

Painting:

Reception worked as a team to decorate a piece of paper with different items such as, shapes and animals. 

Saint Andrew's day celebrations:

We learnt about Saint Andrew and why this Saint is extra special to us, as our school named after Saint Andrew. We decorated stain glass windows.  

Numicon:

 

The children love exploring the Numicon and using the large pieces of numicon matching the smaller pieces to them, ordering them, making an image with them etc.. 

Science:

The year 1 children have been categorising animals and learning why certain animals are mammals, birds etc... as well as learning the animals that don't fit the rule rules, such as an ostrich which is a bird but doesn't fly. year1s are really enjoying the animal topic and have got lots of knowledge and have lots of questions which is fantastic!

Designing a new planet:

Wow what amazing teamwork from the whole class! We worked in groups to create a new planet for the solar system. The groups then presented these to the rest of the class we had planets with ears, sugary rings around them and so much more. Lots of discussion, turn taking, fact sharing and lots of imagination was used. Well done Parks!

Space:

Children enjoyed making the 8 planets of our solar system. 

Outdoor provision:

Reception children accessing a range of activities within the outdoor provision such as, playing farms, counting activities and phonic activities as well. 

Reception maths:

Reception loving their maths input in the outdoor provision working on the composition of number 5. 

Design Technology:

The children enjoyed making sliders in DT for the traditional tale The Gingerbread man used in Autumn 1. 

Rocket ship:

 

Receptions had a fantastic time acting out getting ready to go to space and then building their very own rocket ship to take them there. 

Shape hunt: 

We had a great shape hunt outside, spotting the shapes in the environment. You can support this at home by going on shape walks. 

Firework playdough: 

Reception children enjoyed making firework playdough whilst learning about Guy Fawkes and Bonfire Night. The children then used the playdough in the provision to make different creations. 

Space: 

We have started to look at space and the first landing on the moon. We used our imagination to become astronauts putting on our space suits, helmets and space boots on before starting our journey in our rockets to the moon.
